This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
