The President Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to the White House

President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Vigils across the state have occurred in their remembrance.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Response

Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist public safety in DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that teachers desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to help others.”

Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Government Changes

Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The event caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

The airman, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to speak to his relatives.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
