Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players looking for different ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
