A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a wealth of activities far superior than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter more episodes. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
